Fight Preview: Jake Paul vs Tommy Fury

When I first heard that Jake Paul, a YouTuber and reality TV star, was going to enter the world of professional boxing, I have to admit, I was pretty sceptical. I mean, this guy had built his career on pranks and stunts, not exactly the background you would expect from a professional fighter. To me, it seemed like just another gimmick to stay relevant and attract more followers. But as time passed, I found myself getting more and more interested in these unconventional boxing matches.

I also have to give Jake Paul credit where it’s due for the work he has done in giving female boxers (namely Amanda Serrano) a bigger platform to perform as well as highlighting and fighting for issues surrounding fighter pay in the UFC.

Now, he’s set to take on Tommy Fury, the younger brother of heavyweight champion Tyson Fury. And while Tommy may not have the same level of fame as Jake (to me, I also regard him as a reality TV star thanks to his stint on Love Island), he certainly comes from a family with an incredible boxing pedigree to make this an interesting match-up.

The build-up to the fight has been classic boxing drama. There has been trash talk, fight cancellations, heated press conferences, and plenty of speculation about who will come out on top. So, let’s take a closer look at the two fighters.

Jake Paul has a professional record of 6-0, with four wins coming by way of knockout. He has shown some impressive power in his fights so far, and his boxing skills have improved with each match. But let’s be honest, he hasn’t exactly been fighting against the cream of the crop. His opponents have been mostly other YouTubers or retired athletes, not exactly the most challenging competition. Former UFC legend Anderson Silva is the closest he has come to fighting a pro boxer so you could argue that Tommy Fury will be his toughest test yet.

On the other hand, Tommy Fury has a record of 8-0, with 4 knockouts. That being said, Fury’s previous eight opponents have had a combined record of 24-112-5 so I think it’s fair to say that his fight against Jake Paul may also be his toughest challenge yet. But, coming from a proud boxing family, he does have years of training and experience under his belt. He may not have the same level of fame as Jake, but he certainly has the skills to give him a run for his money.

So, what can we expect from this fight? Well, for starters, it’s going to be a clash of styles. Jake Paul is known for his aggressive, power-based approach to boxing, while Tommy Fury is more of a technical fighter, with a focus on footwork and defence.

If Jake can land one of his signature right hands, he could end the fight early. But if Tommy can use his superior footwork to keep Jake at bay, he could wear him down over time and come out on top.

One thing is for sure, this fight is going to be a spectacle. Both fighters are known for their trash talk and showmanship, and the build-up to the fight has been full of drama and anticipation. Whether you love them or hate them, there’s no denying that these YouTuber boxers have brought a new level of excitement to the sport of boxing.

So, who do I think will win? Jake Paul has clearly been taking his training seriously and I can see the improvements so I’m going to with him. I just hope it’s a technical and quality fight that justifies the hype surrounding it. Although, I still don’t agree with the winner being given a top-40 ranking with the WBC.
